Corundum Spinel Castable

Corundum-spinel castable refractory material has high refractoriness, strong resistance to thermal shock, alkaline slag, and reducing atmosphere, and low thermal conductivity. It also exhibits non-wetting properties towards liquid metals and molten slag. It is widely used in ladle bottoms and permeable bricks.

二.Characteristics of Corundum-spinel castable refractory material

It has high refractoriness, strong resistance to thermal shock, alkaline slag, and reducing atmosphere, and low thermal conductivity.  It also exhibits non-wetting properties towards liquid metals and molten slag. It is widely used in ladle bottoms and permeable bricks.

Adding 20% to 30% magnesium-aluminum spinel to corundum castable significantly improves its thermal shock resistance and resistance to slag penetration. It is widely used in ladle linings. The magnesium-aluminum spinel can be pre-synthesized granules and fine powder, or it can be added as light-burned magnesium oxide fine powder through in-situ reaction to produce corundum-spinel castable.

三.Raw Materials and Storage of Corundum-Spinel Castable

Corundum-spinel castable is made from selected bauxite, corundum, and high-purity spinel as main raw materials, mixed with appropriate additives and dispersants. It features high bulk density and durability.  The product should be stored according to type and grade in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse with rain protection facilities to prevent moisture absorption, which can lead to caking and deterioration of the chemical binder, affecting its performance. Under good storage conditions, its shelf life is 3-6 months. If the storage period is exceeded, relevant tests should be conducted before use to ensure it meets the requirements.

四.Application of Corundum-spinel castable

It can be used not only for ordinary ladle bottoms, but also for repairing or overlaying damaged ladle slag lines with the same material.  It should be compacted with a vibrating rod and smoothed with a trowel to extend ladle life and save on castable material.
